African stories, our stories

Haunted

i will lead you to places

that will hold water in your memory

hand in hand on sandy beach

i will be the memory on mountains

reading poems and smoking weed

i will be the lady with the bowed heart

sipping wine with holy communion

i will be the lady on the street with the throaty laughter,

the solemn one at the bar, cradling a picture

that brings sad memories

we will eat lunch in fancy restaurant

and dinner in local diners

i will be the memory

you see everywhere you go

i will haunt you in places you least expected

i will be the faces on your walls

the one at the grocery store

the wild lady at the bar

the blank spaces in your book

i will etch deep into you

a memory that will trail you to your death

i will be the laughter on the street

the heavy silence in the air

the bubbles in your fizzed water

the choking pepper in your food

i will haunt you forever with a love

full of promises and dream

a love that died before dawn.
